Dennis has worked in historical agencies since 1972. He was originally employed by the OHA from 1992-1999 as Executive Director. Previously, he was the Supervisor of Historic Resources for Onondaga County Parks where he oversaw operations for the Salt Museum, Pioneer Museum and Sainte Marie Among the Iroquois Mission Site Museum. He helped conceptualize and manage the $2.5 million renovation of Ste. Marie during 1989-1991. He has a BA in History with a minor in Museum Studies from the State University of NY at Buffalo.
Dennis is a long-standing member of Thursday Morning Roundtable and is a past member of the Syracuse Landmarks Preservation Board and the Onondaga Citizens League Board. He recently served as a contributing author and editorial advisory board member for the New York State Encyclopedia. He has authored and edited five books (and counting) on Syracuse area history.
Dennis lives in Syracuse with his wife Amy. He has three sons – Daniel who graduated from Canisius College and ESF , Ryan , a graduate of Mercyhurst College and Neil is at Syracuse University. Hobbies include reading, travel, gardening and “caring for” his 80-year old Arts & Crafts house.
