Hungry for History Salt Potato Marker On Location at the Salt Museum

OHA and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation made history on Thursday, June 24th when they unveiled the Foundation’s newest marker program at a launch event held at Willow Rock Brewing Company. “Hungry for History” celebrates regional food history and tradition. OHA is the inaugural grant recipient of the new program, receiving funding for a marker celebrating our beloved salt potatoes. The Pomeroy Foundation unveiled the marker and revealed its location and dedication date. The Salt Potato Hungry for History Marker will be installed at the Salt Museum in Onondaga Lake Park. The museum sits on the location of the original boiling block where brine was turned into one of the nation’s most important commodities.

The official dedication ceremony for the first “Hungry for History” marker took place at the Salt Museum on Saturday, July 10th at 11:00 a.m. The event and the Salt Museum were open to the public to celebrate the dedication, which was attended by the Pomeroy Foundation, the OHA, and State Senator John Mannion (D), 50th Senate District.
