Johnson’s White House photographer. \nThrough candid photographs\, Photographer in the Service of Democracy offers an intimate look at the people\, places\, and moments surrounding presidential power and a transformative period in American history. The exhibition also considers the role of photography in documenting\, interpreting\, and shaping the public’s understanding of history. \nThe exhibition is curated by Hans Petschar\, Ph.D.\, with exhibition design by Hannes Richter. \nGallery Hours: Wednesday–Friday\, 12:00–6:00 p.m.; Saturday–Sunday\, 12:00–8:00 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:“Erie: The Canal That Made America” is a one-hour documentary\, marking the bicentennial of the start of construction of the Erie Canal when surveyors and excavators began linking a young United States’ east to its western frontier. It depicts how a young nation broke through with its first national public works project – America’s greatest – by succeeding in constructing a supposedly impossible-to-build\, 363 mile man-made waterway to America’s heartland.
