DESCRIPTION:The 2017 OHA Medal will be awarded to OHA’s Curator of History Dennis Connors and Journalist\, Author\, and Public Speaker Sean Kirst to recognize their outstanding and meritorious service to local history\, and to the preservation and interpretation of the history of Onondaga County. This year’s event will take place at the Persian Terrace in the beautifully restored Marriott Syracuse Downtown (formerly the Hotel Syracuse) on Thursday\, May 4th\, 2017 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM. \nThe OHA Medal is the highest honor that this organization can bestow upon an individual for contributions made to the cause of preserving and interpreting our heritage.  Since OHA is also the largest and longest standing institution in this community devoted to conserving and presenting our history\, one might also consider this medal the highest tribute that can be awarded on behalf of the entire Onondaga County community to those that ensure history remains a vital part of our future. \nTickets for this event are $50 per person or $400 for a table of 10 and can now be purchased over the phone by calling 315-428-1864 x315. Three world-renowned organists will delight the senses by playing the majestic organs at Plymouth Congregational Church\, St. Paul’s Syracuse\, The Downtown Episcopal Church\, and Park Central Presbyterian Church. DESCRIPTION:On April 5th\, 2017 at 6:00 pm\, the Onondaga Historical Association\, in cooperation with Syracuse University Press\, will host a book talk and signing book with author Laurence Hauptman on his book\, An Oneida Indian in Foreign Waters: The Life of Chief Chapman Scanandoah\, 1870-1953. \nThe event will take place at the Skä•noñh-Great Law of Peace Center on Onondaga Lake Parkway in Liverpool\, New York. \nAbout the book: Chapman Scanandoah was an outsider at the primarily African American Hampton Institute where he was educated in the late 1880s and early 1890s; one of the very few Native Americans in the US Navy from 1897 to 1912; an Oneida with no land or political rights on the Onondaga Reservation\, where he resided for much of his life; a litigant in the white man’s court attempting to prevent the loss of the last remaining Oneida lands in the Empire State; a Native American inventor earning patents in the age of Thomas Edison; one of the founders of the Indian Village at the New York State Fair; and a valued employee and mechanic working for major companies in Schenectady and Syracuse. Fuller Torrey\, M.D.\, is a research psychiatrist specializing in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He is the executive director of the Stanley Medical Research Institute\, the founder of the Treatment Advocacy Center\, a professor of psychiatry at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences\, and the author of twenty books. He lives in Bethesda\, Maryland.

The team often conducts investigations all over the Central New York region and occasionally finds themselves traveling out of state to partner with Matt Cook (Kevin’s brother) and his Philadelphia based “Old City Paranormal” team for larger investigations. \nThe team is made up of three members and one case manager\, though they occasionally welcome other experts and investigators depending on the size of a location and/or the needs of the client. Officially\, to date\, they have conducted approximately 25 investigations with only a handful of repeats.
