SUMMARY:Walking & Talking Wednesdays: Historical Lunchtime Tours of Downtown Syracuse
DESCRIPTION:Spanning from spring to fall\, our Walking & Talking Wednesdays give you the chance to spend your mid-week lunch hour with Curator of History Robert Searing\, listening to some local history as you get in a midday walk around town. \nThe tours will leave from OHA’s downtown museum at 321 Montgomery Street at 12:00 and end in Clinton Square. Each will last approximately 45-60 minutes and cover a wide array of topics\, including abolition\, architecture\, general historical happenings\, and some of the city’s lost historical treasures. Please arrive and check in at OHA’s front desk 10 minutes prior to the start of your tour. \nTour dates are 5/1\, 5/15\, 6/5\, 6/26\, 7/10\, 7/24\, 8/14\, 8/28\, 9/4\, 9/18\, 10/2\, & 10/16 \nThe tours will cost $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Each tour group is capped at 15 guests\, so book your spot soon!

DESCRIPTION:As we prepare for the 2024 election season\, Seward House Museum Director of Education Dr. Jeff Ludwig explores the politics behind William Seward’s three campaigns for New York Governor in the late 1830s and early 1840s. These early beginnings of Seward’s career as a reformer with a radical reputation are deeply connected to Syracuse and Onondaga County – a stronghold of activist ferment. Dr. Ludwig will also discuss Seward’s career as New York’s 12th Governor\, and how those years sharpened his national ambitions. \nThis event is free with museum admission.

Step back in time to Oswego in the Gilded Age and witness the incredible circumstances that surrounded the Tonkin family in this historical fiction that is full of tragedy\, intrigue\, romance\, betrayal\, mystery\, scandal\, and even murder.

Since 1945\, the Onondaga Historical Association Medal Award has recognized distinguished contributions to the cause of preserving and interpreting Onondaga County history. \nThe OHA Medal is the highest honor that we can bestow upon an individual or organization for contributions made to the cause of preserving and interpreting our heritage. Since OHA is the only general comprehensive history organization in this community\, one might also consider this medal the highest tribute that can be awarded on behalf of the entire Onondaga County community to those who ensure history remains a vital part of our future. \nThe 2024 Medal honorees are Dave Rudd and Debbie Goldwein of Dalton’s American Decorative Arts\, Honor Flight Syracuse\, and Syracuse City School District\n \nThe 2024 OHA Medal Breakfast Ceremony will take place on May 23rd from 8am-9:30am at the Syracuse Marriott Downtown. \nThe RSVP deadline was May 10. If you have questions about tickets or sponsorship\, please contact us.
