The Kids On Canvas exhibit showcases a collection of work from various artists, all depicting children from Onondaga County. These pieces were created over the span of a century, between 1830 and 1930. They showcase children in multiple artistic styles and periods, including the Romantic period and in the Folk Art style. The variety of artworks on display offers insight to the changing moral and social conditions of the time of their creation, as well as attitudes towards children and how they are depicted by the artist – most frequently as commissions for the area’s upper class.
The exhibit is currently on display in the small first floor gallery at the Onondaga Historical Museum in downtown Syracuse through December of 2021.
A special thank you to the Richard Mather Fund for helping to make this exhibit possible.
