Former First Lady Nancy Reagan to be Memorialized in Marsellus Casket

Nancy Reagan memorialized in a Marsellus Casket made in Syracuse

Former First Lady of the United States Nancy Reagan was memorialized today at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Like many other U.S. Presidents and First Ladies, including Ronald Reagan, Nancy was buried in a Marsellus Casket made in Syracuse before the company’s factory closed in 2003.

According to’s Rick Moriarty, John D. Marsellus, great-grandson of Marsellus Casket Co. founder John Marsellus and a former president of the company, confirmed the casket was indeed made in Syracuse.

Nancy Reagan came to Syracuse in October of 1980 while raising money for her husband’s campaign. Nancy is photographed with Frank Sinatra in front of 13,000 at the Carrier Dome during the musical festival to raise money. Other musicians included Wayne Newton and Foster Brooks.

The following is from the Casket and Funeral Supply Association of America website:

Former CFSA Board member Mike Beardsley, now semi-retired while remaining a consultant for Thacker Caskets, spent most of his professional career working for the Marsellus Casket Company in Syracuse, New York, before the company was closed in 2003. Mike, who chaired CFSA’s 100th Anniversary Committee in 2013, is known to many in the industry as our resident “Historian”. He authored much of the text and contributed nearly all of the timeless images produced in our commemorative Centennial hardcopy book, CFSA: 100 Year of Service.
