Our Glorious Workplaces returned to an in-person format in its 22nd year on Friday, October 29th at 6:00pm for a black-tie masquerade gala at the historic Landmark Theater.
OHA’s Our Glorious Workplaces event showcases how local businesses create and deliver products or services while emphasizing the historic impact on the larger community. Our 2021 event served a two-fold purpose of celebrating the reopening of an iconic entertainment venue, and recognizing the 150th anniversary of the company that has been instrumental in retuning it to its former glory.
Since the 1920’s, the Loew’s State Theater has entertained young and old alike, from vaudeville acts and moving pictures to vast Broadway productions and movie premieres. The theater, more commonly known as “The Landmark”, has left its visitors with indelible memories of the theater’s opulence and grandeur. It remains a crown jewel of our arts community.
The Landmark represents thousands of projects completed by the Hueber-Breuer Company in the course of their six generations of leadership. The vision and values of the Breuer family, and the company, have had a profound impact on Central New York’s built environment, as well as our arts, cultural, educational, health, and human services organizations.
This reach has certainly been felt here at OHA. We have been fortunate to be both a partner and a beneficiary of Hueber-Breuer’s stewardship of our community. As the company approaches its sesquicentennial, it seems fitting that we return their generosity and celebrate this historic milestone in a venue that exemplifies our shared commitment to pride in place.
This iteration of Our Glorious Workplaces began with cocktails and a very special edition of our popular Ghostwalk with a “behind the scenes” tour of the theater, given by The Landmark’s very own spirits. Our guests enjoyed dinner on the stage, followed by a presentation by OHA’s Curator of History, Bob Searing, a special musical tribute to our honorees, and an opportunity to win on of a few unique prizes including tickets to the 2022 touring production of Hamilton.
Pictures from the event can be found here, as well as images from the event’s photobooth.
