Today in History: Syracuse Remembers the Titanic

Titanic Painting by Willy Stower

On April 15, 1912 the Titanic left Southampton, England on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. Later that night, after failing to divert its course, it struck and iceberg and sank the following morning. At the time, the Post Standard’s headlines were filled with news about the Titanic as more and more information was brought to light. Below is just a sample of the headlines residents of Syracuse and central New York would have seen more than 100 years ago, stating all of the passengers were rescued, which, as the public would find out, was not the case.
