“Yoichi’s White House” Film Screening & Panel Discussion

October 3 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Join us for a special screening of Yoichi’s White House, a film by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Eric Elofson, followed by a panel discussion exploring the intersection of photography, journalism, and democracy.

The film examines the remarkable career of Yoichi Okamoto, the first official White House photographer under President Lyndon B. Johnson, and his lasting photographic legacy. The screening will be followed by a conversation featuring Elofson; acclaimed photographer Gregory Heisler, whose work has appeared on more than 70 TIME covers and who is a distinguished professor at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School; and Hans Petschar, an Austrian historian and curator who has led extensive research and exhibitions focused on Okamoto’s photographs and his documentation of postwar Austria and Austrian-American relations.

The program is presented in conjunction with Yoichi Okamoto: Photographer in the Service of Democracy, an exhibition on view at Art in the Atrium, 201 E. Washington Street, from September 15 through November 15, 2026. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
